India pacer, Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from an injury is set to make his much-awaited comeback to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy. The Cricket Association of Bengal has stated that Shami will feature in the encounter against Madhya Pradesh in Indore which starts on Wednesday, November 13.
Shami has not featured for India since the World Cup final in Ahmedabad in November 2023, which marks his return after a prolonged rehabilitation period. Shami had to undergo surgery initially to tend to an Achilles heel injury and subsequently suffered a setback in recovery when there was some knee swelling. This had delayed his comeback, even though he managed to have a few sessions at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on the sidelines of India’s Test match against New Zealand.
The return to competitive cricket now will be a boost for India as well. They have embarked on a five-test tour of Australia starting on November 22. Last month, skipper Rohit Sharma said that they were hoping to have Shami fit for some part of the tour. Although Shami has not been named in the Test squad that has already been announced, he could still make it if fitness issues are not a worry.
